You’ve done it. You’ve finished university. All that hard work has paid off. Now’s the time to find your first graduate job. Job hunting can be a daunting process at first, so here’s a few tips on ways to get started.

Routine
After uni, it’s common for your usual routine to come undone. That’s ok. Set a new one. Without a set routine, job hunting could end up taking a back seat, so establishing a fixed timeframe to concentrate on finding your ideal job will help. This will structure your day and also help to keep you motivated.

Do your research
Research is crucial when is comes to job seeking. Find out as much information as you can about the company you’re interested in. Check out their website, go on social media and be informed of the latest news surrounding the business. This will give you more info about the job you’re going for and help determine if it looks right for you.

Concentrate on your skills
Sell yourself! Make sure you emphasise your skillset when applying for a job. Time management, strong leadership and good communication are just a few examples of skills that are useful in any role, so tell your prospective employer what you can do!

Practice your interview technique
Interviews can often be intimidating, so by practicing your technique it can help you to feel more prepared when the moment arrives. Go through your interview with a friend or career adviser, you’re sure to feel calmer and more at ease. Practice makes perfect!

Network
The importance of networking cannot be underestimated when job hunting. According to LinkedIn, 80% of professionals believe professional networking to be important to career success; 61% consider regular online contact with their professional network can result in potential job opportunities; and 35% said a conversation on LinkedIn led to a new opportunity. Start developing your network as soon as possible! Good luck!
